Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent saved four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
