Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
